The client

Alternative Bricklaying is a family-owned Melbourne bricklaying business founded by Peter Kolobaric. With more than 40 years of experience and a genuine three-generation bricklaying tradition, the business specialises in brick repairs, restorations, period homes, extensions and architectural brickwork across Melbourne's northern suburbs.

The challenge

The previous WordPress website had become dated and wasn't generating the level of enquiries the business expected. Important services were grouped together, making it difficult to target valuable search terms and local suburbs effectively.

The site also lacked useful features for homeowners, including a brick calculator, and there was limited opportunity to expand SEO through dedicated service and suburb landing pages.

What I built

I rebuilt the website entirely by hand using HTML and CSS, creating a fast, mobile-friendly website with a clean structure designed around search intent. Every major service now has its own dedicated landing page, supported by suburb-specific pages targeting Melbourne's northern suburbs.

A custom brick calculator was developed to help homeowners estimate the number of bricks required for their project, providing useful value while attracting additional organic search traffic. The new site also includes improved internal linking, stronger calls to action, modern imagery and a content structure built for long-term SEO growth.

The result

Alternative Bricklaying now has a modern website that reflects the quality of the business and provides a much stronger foundation for organic search. Dedicated service pages, suburb pages and useful tools give the business far greater visibility for the types of work it wants to attract.

The new hand-coded website is significantly faster than the previous WordPress site, easier to maintain and built to support ongoing SEO and future digital marketing campaigns.
